Environmental Impairment Liability Insurance

Lycetts offers protection for businesses in the event of environmental disturbance or damage.

Our environmental impairment liability insurance services provide a range of businesses with protection. These include the following aspects of cover:

Civil liabilities, for example when contamination migrates from one site to another, threatening to harm land, buildings, personal property, businesses (revenues and profits) and people;

Clean-up liabilities, e.g. the Environment Agency can enforce the landowner to render the site safe and this could involve hundreds of thousands of pounds per acre in addition to legal and technical costs;

Criminal liabilities, e.g. directors and officers can be fined, or even imprisoned, for contravening UK environmental law by breaching a Statutory Notice requiring a site to be remediated; and/or

Associated legal and technical costs, e.g. professional costs either to bring or defend a legal action if all or any of the above liabilities are incurred.

How to claim environmental impairment liability insurance.

It is a condition of all insurance policies that incidents that may result in claims are reported to insurers without delay. If such incidents are not reported within an acceptable timescale (usually 30 days from the time of the incident) your insurers may refuse to indemnify you.

In the event of a claim in relation to a commercial business policy, you should contact your Lycetts account executive/handler as soon as possible. When completing claim forms, ensure the whole form is completed as far as possible and it is signed on your behalf or your company’s behalf by an authorised person. For further detailed information relating to claims concerning injury to employees or third parties, damage to third party property, loss or damage to own property, personal accident and sickness or motor accidents, please click here.
