We’re proud to share that our CEO, Ian Barclay, has completed Spain’s most gruelling one-day cycling event, raising an incredible £12,641 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
Taking on the legendary Quebrantahuesos – a 200km (124-mile) route through the Aragonese and French Pyrenees with over 3,500 metres of climbing – Ian crossed the finish line in 8 hours and 41 minutes.
The punishing course was made even tougher by searing 37°C heat and two punctures – including a 4km walk to get the second one repaired – but Ian remained determined to finish.
Ian’s fundraising efforts were boosted by match funding from our parent company, the Benefact Group, which pledged to match donations up to £5,000. Thanks to colleagues, friends and supporters, the final total raised reflects a huge groundswell of generosity.
Reflecting on the challenge, Ian said: “This was, without question, one of the toughest tests I’ve ever faced – both physically and mentally. But whenever it got difficult, I reminded myself why I was doing it.
“I’m humbled by the generosity of everyone who donated and I’m proud that this money will support the vital work of the MND Association.”
We also want to echo the words of Dominic McDonough, Regional Fundraiser at the MND Association: “Ian’s determination and dedication are truly inspiring. His efforts and this fantastic donation will make a real difference to people affected by MND, and we are hugely grateful for his support.”
At Lycetts, we’re inspired by Ian’s achievement and grateful to everyone who rallied behind this cause.
