Lycetts backs charity sports days for more than 400 Hull children

October 7th 2026

There was no shortage of energy at Burton Constable Hall when more than 400 children from schools across Hull came together for two action-packed sports days, supported by Lycetts and Yorkshire Children’s Charity (YCC).

A total of 410 children took part, trying different sports, spending time outdoors and enjoying the day with their friends.

The sports days were supported by funding from Benefact Group as part of our ongoing partnership with YCC.

Twenty-two of our colleagues also volunteered across the two days in September, working alongside the YCC team to help everything run smoothly and make sure the children got as much as possible from the experience.

Activities included athletics sessions delivered by Helen Beck, cricket with Yorkshire Cricket Foundation, football with Hull City Ladies and rugby with Wakefield Trinity.

“The Yorkshire Children’s Charity Sports Days were a truly special experience and something that will stay with many of us for a long time,” said Lycetts CEO Ian Barclay.

“Seeing the excitement and sheer joy on the faces of more than 400 children across the two days was incredibly moving and a powerful reminder of the difference Yorkshire Children’s Charity makes to the lives of young people across the region.

“We are incredibly proud to support the charity through our partnership, alongside the Benefact Group, whose funding helped make the Sports Days possible.

“The work Yorkshire Children’s Charity does to create opportunities and experiences for children who might otherwise miss out is remarkable, and it was wonderful to see that impact first-hand. Having so many Lycetts colleagues there volunteering and getting stuck in made it all the more special.”

Charlotte Hopkins, Head of Programme at Yorkshire Children’s Charity, added: “There was so much energy and laughter with children having a go at something new, cheering one another on and simply enjoying being outside with their friends.

“We simply couldn’t make that happen without good people getting behind us. Lycetts’ support has been incredible, not only through helping to fund the event but by having more than 20 of their team there getting stuck in across both days.

“It takes a lot of people pulling together to organise and deliver two days like this, and that Yorkshire spirit was there in bucketloads.”

The sports days form part of Yorkshire Children’s Charity’s wider programme of support for children and young people living at a disadvantage across the region.

Through its Schools Out programme, the charity gives children opportunities to experience activities and days out that may otherwise be out of reach.
