May 3rd 2024

Lycetts has hosted a star-studded event aimed at raising awareness around tackling mental health.

Held at the company’s city centre headquarters in Bank House, and supported by the North East Times and mental health app provider Leafyard, the evening saw local guest speakers share their experiences of the mental pressures of dealing with celebrity and unexpected fame.

Former Chair of North East England tech network Dynamo North East and Newcastle mayoral election runner-up, Charlie Hoult talked to Newcastle heavyweight Olympic boxing contender Adam ‘Big Future’ Olaore about the impact of his sporting success on mental health.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Adam came to Newcastle at the age of 14, joining Howdon Boxing Academy and then Empire School of Boxing in Blyth. A national youth champion at 17, and senior English National Amateur Champion in 2023, Adam is GB Three Nations Champion and has just won gold at the African Games in Ghana. He will representing Nigeria in this summer’s Olympics.

Anthony Hutton, former Big Brother winner and owner of Mr Hutton’s barber and bar in Darlington, highlighted his mission to tackle male suicide with his recently launched charity ‘Never Throw in the Towel’.

Jon Davies, behavioural science expert and Leafyard founder, shared thoughts on human behaviours and habits.

“This has been a fascinating and inspiring insight into how people can take control of their mental health – as well as giving friends, family and colleagues support where it is needed,” said Lycetts Divisional Director, Charles Renwick.

“It’s crucial that we spread this awareness across our communities and workplaces, creating spaces where mental health is openly addressed and properly supported.”
